Marble in the World of Contemporary Fashion

Nature is the best designer. Many artists and designers would attribute their styles to nature. The world of fashion designers is more than ever following this trend. Part of it is due to the sustainability goals we aim to reach. To promote ethical and sustainable ideas, some designers try to incorporate nature into their works. They could be using the materials such as marble stone or go with their patterns. Natural stones like marbles and stones have amazing lines and patterns that would differentiate them from one another. For example, FaraStone company has offered you ways to distinguish marble, granite, and quartz from one another. Here we can discover the importance of natural stones such as marble and their influence over fashionistas.

When Did Marble Enter the Fashion World?

Maybe we can trace the first influences of marble on fashion to the year 2008. This year is when Raf Simons presented the world the men’s collection for Jil Sanders. He showed the world coats, suits, and other menswear clothing inspired by marble patterns. But many would claim this was only the beginning of the story of marble popularity.

Once Upon a Time Marble…

Then came the time for marble stones to have roles inside fashion promotional videos. Kenzo is a French luxury fashion house. It was first established in 1970 by the Japanese designer Kenzo Takada. This innovative brand used marble-inspired settings for a video to launch its 2012 Fall collection. They even went on to include a set of marble-wedged boots in their collection, a design that would shatter all expectations. A fabric dress with the patterns of marbles shone in the fall/winter 2012 runway. It was as soft as marble sculptures look.

2014; The Marble Show Must Go On

Milan design week and London Design Festival were crowded with marble designs everywhere. Many designers unveiled their designs with tracks of marble patterns all over. For example, Robert Rodrigues presented the world with a Carrara Sleeveless dress. Moreover, it was in this year that Balenciaga came up with the famous and popular Marble print suede sneakers. Zara, too, designed a skirt with patterns of black and white marble.

Marble in the Following Years

In the following years, many other fashion designers appreciated marble patterns and incorporated them into their works. In 2015, Balenciaga introduced a Marble satchel bag. What we can see is the love of black and white marble patterns over other color combinations in the world of fashion so far. This kind of marble design resembles Carrara marble more than others. In 2018, we can see the world of sportswear turning into marble, as well. Adidas presented a marble packable wind jacket with its appearance inspired by marbles. Nike, too, came up with a set for Jersey with the same patterns all over.

Present Day World and Marble Fashion

In the year 2019, marble fashion got a new life. French and Italian haute couture designed more unique products using marble stones. Fendi celebrated the launch of its “Dawn of Romanity” collection in front of the Colosseum in Rome. The designs were inspired by marble stones, as well.

Some sportswear designers, such as Puma have used the art of marble sculptures. They remake their shoes using natural marble stones. They show the durability and quality of their sportswear by doing so. Also, they manifest their understanding of the true value of what nature offers us.

The world of marble stones and marble will only get more integrated. Now, there is the technology to put these soothing and unique patterns almost on any material. Leather and softer fabrics are now open to having imprints of these magnificent designs all over them. But more importantly, the world is ready to see more things in marble.
